Secrets Of Personal Effectiveness In A Digital Age

I have studied some of the masters of time management, the best being Dr. Steven R. Covey (7 Habits Of Highly Effective People), Roger Merrill (First Things First) and Timothy Ferriss (4 Hour Work Week), and have distilled some of their best stuff into three key elements of effectiveness that have made a major difference in my life.

Principle 1. KNOW WHAT YOU SEEK. According to Dr. Covey, human beings are comprised of four different fundamental areas: mental, physical, spiritual, and social/ emotional. Take a sheet of paper, write down the four things, and ask this question: What one thing could I do, that would bring the greatest positive improvement in this area?
Next, identify the different "roles" you play in your life. Things like wife, husband, father, mother, daughter, member of a community, church or club, entrepreneur, cyclist, etc. Then ask the question for each of these roles as well. You now have a list of goals that cover every important area of your life.

Principle 2. DEVELOP A DAILY AND WEEKLY METHOD OF OPERATION. (MO). First, throw most of your long range goals in the trash. They're meaningless. Why? Because they delude you into thinking that it doesn't matter what you do TODAY. But today is all you have. How can you possibly reach a massive goal in five years if you don't do the daily work necessary to get there? Yet not everything has to be done on a daily basis, some thing are best performed weekly. For example, in the role of "husband" I try to have a date once a week with my wife. Weekly makes more sense than daily. But monthly isn't near enough! Very few goals outside of daily or weekly make sense. So take all the goals determined above, and develop your daily and weekly method of operation. Write them down on a single piece of paper, and display it where you will see it often.

Principle 3. REDUCE AND SIMPLIFY. Think you don't have enough time? Think again. You have just as much time in the day as Mother Teresa or Bill Gates. One major difference between highly effective and dysfunctional people is simply in the use of time.
Every morning, look at your daily and weekly MO. Start into those most important activities you have chosen, and stay on task until they're all done. Do not let ANYTHING distract you from each item. And don't multi-task. Do one at a time through to completion.
There are four things you will have to manage if you want to do this effectively: e-mail, the telephone, media, and other people.

E-mail. Many experts tell us that e-mail wastes more time than any other business practise. And very few e-mails are mission critical. Here are some steps to take in killing this time sucking, income reducing monster: 1. Turn off the "you've got mail" sound on your computer.

              2. Only check your e-mail twice per day, once per day if possible. The best times are noon and 4 PM. If once only, then do it at 4. If you need to, set up an autoresponse letting people know that you are only checking your e-mail at 4 PM, and if it's an emergency item to call you on the phone. When I started checking e-mail twice a day I thought I would miss out on opportunities or cause grief to colleagues. Surprisingly, within a week I was down to once a day, and my personal effectiveness was through the roof.

             3. Be aggressive in eliminating e-mail, and be quick to hit delete. If you have dysfunctional friends that think they need to send you stupid "pass this on to 10 people and..." e-mails, politely ask them to stop sending them. Unsubscribe from mailing lists. Don't feel obligated to respond to every e-mail you receive. The delete button is your friend.
Telephone. Do you feel like a ringing phone is an emergency? It's not. Believe it or not, the world will still function just fine without you for a few hours. Learn to ignore the phone while working on your priorities, and let voice mail do its job.

Media. Kill it. Cancel your newspaper. It's only filling your head with negative crap anyway. Stop watching the news, reading magazines, and celebrity gossip at your home page. Do not surf the internet idly. It's a good idea to change your home page to a plain one without any media or news, like google.com, or a site that helps you achieve one of your major goals. Think you'll miss out on something big if you cut media out of your life? Nope. Trust me, if a major earthquake sinks a continent, you'll hear about it real quick.
Other people. This one you have to be careful with. What's the point of life if not for the relationships we have? At the same time, by following the effectiveness principles outlined above, you will have more time than ever for loved ones. The key is to not let others invade your sacred space when you are working on your MO's. Use the "do not disturb" button, warn your family before you go into your office, and take care of interruptions quickly. That will help you eliminate casual, time wasting interactions, saving time for the important, planned people time that you create through being more effective.

The 80/20 rule dictates that 80 percent of the results are achieved by only 20 percent of the work. By using these principles you can eliminate the 80 percent, work only on the 20, and cut your work time down while increasing your effectiveness and creating time for those things that matter most in your life!

Winning In The Cash Flow Business E book Review:

Winning in the Cash Flow Business, a program designed by Russ Dalbey seems on late night time infomercials nightly. I first stumbled throughout this business a bit of over a 12 months in the past and almost pulled the trigger on it, as at the time I used to be searching for virtually anything.

His program, Profitable in the Cash Movement Business, is about re-promoting real estate notes. The thought is to seek out word holders, connect them to consumers (after first inducing them to sell the word), after which earn good revenue for setting the deal up.

Winning in the Money Move Enterprise is centered around the concept of brokering notes. In other words, you will be shopping for and itemizing notes whereas turning a revenue on these notes without really ever having to spend your individual cash on them. Observe brokering is a authentic enterprise mannequin and many individuals do fairly nicely from it, unfortunately these people have years of expertise and in lots of circumstances have state licenses to practice.

This system provides you the tools and education you could earn a living on this industry. Sadly, the way in which through which the data is disseminated to you is piece by piece and you'll have to pay extra each time it's essential be taught more. If you want to be part of this business plan to spend effectively and above what this system is advertised for as a result of you'll not be receiving all that you want on the primary purchase.

Well to fast ahead, I had this program for a few month and did not make any money at all. I even managed to seek out about 20 or so actual property notes in the whole course of too. The problem wasn't discovering the notes though; it was truly convincing the individuals to sell them. This wasn't the one dilemma either. To confide all of this, these are some of the claims that Russ Dalbey offers you with Winning within the Money Move Enterprise: "Find 'Em, Record 'Em, and Make Money!", "So easy that anyone can do that!", "I guarantee that you'll start making money straight away!"

Once you have got finished that you would have to resell the promissory observe to another person, so your web profit will merely be the difference between the purchase price and the resell price.

Is It Still Possible to Make Money on the Internet?

Many people are saying that the internet is dead. So is there still money to be made on the Internet?

The answer is a definite YES.

Research shows, time and again, that consumers want to spend more online, and that the internet is fast becoming an integral part of their lifestyle and it'll continue to be so. Internet consumers are cautious and they want sites that are credible and worth shopping before they part with their money.

The traditional brick-and-mortar rules of business still apply to internet business. It's prudent to remember that the internet is not your business goal; it's a medium in helping you achieve your business goals.

Adhere to my following Rules and you'll be on your way to building a viable, sustainable and successful internet business.
1. Develop a viable business plan
The biggest reason why so many dotcoms failed is an inadequate business plan of how and when they will achieve profitability. To have a successful and sustainable internet business, developing a viable business plan from the outset is crucial.

Your plan must have a clear and sincere vision that has meaning to you and your business. Your main focus should be to 'plan to profit' within a set period of time and this would require you to allow time for thoughtful researching, planning, executing and testing. You'll need to test out your business model first and ensure that it's viable and sustainable.

Don't make the same mistakes that many dotcoms made - trying to build a global brand before their business model even worked as it'll lead you into receivership faster.

Regardless of how fanciful and good your website is, if your aim is not to make profit, you'll go out of business.

2. Model someone successful
It's always wise to learn from the mistakes of other people rather than to learn from your own mistakes as this can sometimes be very costly and painful.

Track and learn from benchmarked success stories, be they your competitors or otherwise. Why would you want to spend time re-inventing the wheel when you can learn from those who've already been there and done it successfully. Learn how they design their web site, create products, write salescopy, their sales process, etc.

3. Focus on a niche market
Don't be everything to everybody by trying to dominate a huge and general market because you just simply can't do it effectively.

Focus your internet business on a targetable portion of the market or a narrowly defined group of potential customers. Address the need for a product or service that's not being addressed by mainstream providers. The advantage of this is that it's less competitive in such a market as large businesses won't want to be in it.

For this to be effective, the market niche that you're targeting must be fast moving, its customers accessible and there mustn't already be a dominant player in that particular market niche.

The key here is to find a niche market, assess the needs of the market and then offer them your products and/or services that meet their needs.

4. Differentiate your business
To capture a larger market share and be viable, sustainable and profitable, you absolutely need to differentiate or distinguish your business from your competitors'; make your business special in the eyes of your customers and/or prospects.

You can do this by creating what's called a Unique Selling Propostion or USP and then effectively convey that USP to your target market via your marketing efforts and business performance.

This is particularly crucial if you're operating in a highly competitive market.

A USP is the one thing or idea that sets your business favourably apart from your competitors'. Think about these questions: "What's the one thing that makes your business unique and distinct? Why should people buy from you and not from your competitors? Do you promise great value, benefit or service?"

Your USP is the focal point around which the success and profitability of your business is built, and so you must be able to state it and fulfill it honourably and effectively.

5. Spent your funds wisely.
Costs is one of the major determinants of your internet business' survivability. You'll need to carefully track and control your costs from the outset and make sure you can start to show a profit soon, as unmindful spending with no thought given to incoming resources will bleed you to death.

Credible web sites not only require money to set up but also to maintain; advertisement costs money. Driving traffic to your website where you lose money on sales made is suicidal. Do your sums; consistently refer back to your vision to ascertain whether an expense is warranted or meaningful.

6. Superior customer service
In addition to a viable business plan, a superior customer service will be key to your success.

Superior customer service must be a high priority in your action plan. Build a trusting and long lasting relationship with your customers and prospects, send your staff for customer service training, fulfill your orders promptly, and constantly remind yourself the reason of your very existence.

This is crucial as it costs five times more to win a new customer than it costs to keep an existing customer. Moreover, a dissatisfied customer will tell, on average, five or six people about your bad service. The point I'm driving at here is that looking after your customers saves money and boosts profits.

Article Marketing - How to Make It Work For You

Information based marketing is one of the oldest and most effective techniques for bringing targeted prospects to your site and converting them into buyers. This is part of the reason that software, and distribution services that make the process of article promotion easier are so popular lately.
Though the various tools you can use to make the process of distributing your articles more easily are invaluable in getting your content the most exposure, that's only half of the story.
Getting article marketing to work for your site lies primarily in two things:
  • The article you're submitting
  • The preparation you do before you a single word of your content is written.
Since those two determining factors make at least 50% of the difference in bringing you success, let's take a look at what the most common mistakes are in that area, and how to overcome them.
Mistake #1 - Confusing the Reason to Promote with Articles with the Reason to Write Articles
There are three key benefits to promoting an article - branding, lead generation, and as a corollary, online promotion, particularly as part of your optimization efforts.
Yet there is only one reason to write an article, and that is to inform your audience. If your article is not geared towards this as its primary purpose, you will fail to see the three benefits of promotion - because no one will want to read your article.
How many links you're able to generate by submitting your article to hundreds of sites will matter little if you're unable to get them picked up by publications, or read by people who search for information.
Sure, if you know what you're doing all those links pointing back to your site will count for something in your search engine results - but remember that generating links to your site is only one part of optimizing your site for Google, Yahoo or MSN.
To overcome this issue, you'll need to figure out how to get people to read what is in your article, and then click through to your site from your resource box. The best start to a solution is to produce better content.
In the end it's a matter of choice. You can get a little exposure from increased link backs, on a very basic level, or enjoy massive exposure from a little extra work.
Mistake #2 - Starting The Article Promotion without a Plan
Not every article can fulfil all three purposes of promotion. Some will work better for branding, others can generate leads and increase sales. But if you don't start out with a plan for what the function of your article should be, you'll end up unhappy with the results.
To overcome this issue, before you write a single word, decide what purpose the article is supposed to serve. An article meant to brand you as an expert should display your knowledge. One for generating leads may need to be geared towards solving a very specific problem.
An article that gets published every where and helps to make you known is not meant to have the same level of exposure as hyper-targeted content geared towards a narrow group of people. Learning the difference will help you know what kinds of articles to write.
Mistake #3- Publishing Content That Doesn't Help Your Reader
Maybe you're thinking: "All I want is links back to my site - any visitors the article generates is gravy."
Well guess what? Not all article banks and directories are going to accept your content automatically. You can double the number of sites you can submit to by writing articles that the directories want to share with readers. And all it takes is one publisher with a hundred thousand readers to increase yo ur potential audience tenfold.
So if you want article marketing to work for you, write articles that publishers want in their publications.
This also means obeying the standard guidelines, running a spell check, researching a good topic to write about, or even hiring a writer to produce articles on your behalf.
Mistake #4 - Failing to Maximize the Promotional Opportunities of Article Marketing
You already know that articles marketing can help you generate additional links back to your site. But did you know that you can get more visitors and better search engine results from articles in a variety of ways?
You can mention your desired keyword in strategic places, though you should take care not to overdo this. Some people will also tell you to make use of anchor text, which can also is an effective method. However, you should know that the majority of directories and publications aren't able to support this.
There are alternatives to this method that are just as effective, if not more so, but they require more space to explain.
It's not just about the links back to your site either. Part of doing well with article marketing is getting picked up by publishers with large audiences, or gaining the ability to leverage other brands due to the quality of your work.
Better search engine results are great.
But by themselves they don't put money in your pocket - there are a myriad of factors that can turn your article marketing efforts into an opportunity to increase your income, not just the number of visitors to your site.

How To Market Online With Ease

You can ignite your marketing efforts and passion for the game by learning to use your personal story and expertise to get potential clients subscribing to your opt-in list.
I want to show you 10 simple steps you can implement with a low-cost investment and a little effort that you can use as a springboard for more aggressive online marketing campaigns.
By creating an interesting web site, which consist of one simple, yet, well-designed web page you can begin a relationships with qualified prospects. The "Interest Site" is designed to share content and offer a customized introductory e-product to someone who would qualify to be considered your ideal client. The focus of the site has to be a HOT TOPIC for your ideal client and it has to tie back to your product theme in some logical way.
The Interest Site will include the following components:
1. The reason why the ideal client should read the content and subscribe to your list to get the introductory product. You written communication should be compelling, not contain hype, and impress the ideal client so they know free product does not mean no-value, low-value product, but it means you are a generous person, you are a skilled business person, and you are beginning your relationship with them on good and ethical terms.
2. Weave in a soft introduction that is designed to create affinity with your ideal client so they know you are like them, understand them, and share some of the same concerns and interests as they relate to this topic. Be brief.
3. Discuss one to three key points related to the topic that the ideal client would find very interesting. Notice I said the ideal client would find them interesting, you may not, and the non-ideal client may not. You may have expertise in this area or you may have to go and do some research. Either way, make sure the information is highly relevant to your ideal client and related to your primary business offering.
4. Include a message that lets the ideal client know that this content is incomplete and they can get more advanced information by signing up for the complimentary ecourse or workbook. Don't offer just a newsletter or special report. These things are over used and are often perceived as low value until your credibility is well established.
5. Give the ideal client a teaser preview of the HOT HOT HOT TOPICS covered in the ecourse or workbook. Summarize what you have provided and remind them to subscribe.
6. Provide a Bio-box with 3 or 4 lines about you, written in third person to start imprinting the ideal client with the perception that you are a great resource, expert, etc. Be sure to include email contact. Get yourself an official domain and email address. Make sure the web address you pick for your interest site relates to the topic being discussed. Remember to represent yourself as being an established professional. Do not use an ISP email address. Bob@my-interest-site.com is much more attractive than bob1698@yahoo.com.
7. Use an autoresponder to create an online signup form for your opt-in list. Include this sign-up form directly into your web site page. I use an autoresponder which allows for attachments and can create both text and html messages. You can use the HTML software inside the autoresponder to create simple yet elegant messages without knowing HTML. I recommend you stay away form text based messages, there quick, fast and cheesy looking. Imagine getting a text-based email from Amazon, it just wouldn't look all that professional, would it?
8. Set up your autoresponder so the subscriber gets an immediate message congratulating them on their new subscription. Assure that the e-product is sent with the first message. You can either attach the product or store it on a web server and include the link. The first option is the easiest if you use the full-featured autoresponder.
9. Instead of trying to push people to your replicated site or your affiliate site, or convince them to spend money with a stranger, you want to get them to your interest site and get them into your opt-in database before sending them off to some other web site or having a serious sales conversation with them.
10. You can get more information about tools and resources for the Interest Site Project and you can also receive a complimentary template for creating your first ecourse when you subscribe to our online newsletter at www.marketing-with-a-story.com.

How To Find A Profitable Niche Market As Well As Profitable Niche Keywords

Whether you are new or familiar to internet marketing one thing that really all online marketers are always looking out for is a new profitable niche market. There are quite a number of ways to find a profitable niche so in this article I am going to give a few ideas on how to find a profitable niche market and also how you can find profitable niche keywords.
Something that I was taught a long time ago is that evergreen niches will always be profitable, by evergreen I mean solutions that will always be searched for online year in and year out. These highly profitable niches are never going to go out of fashion, however there will always be high competition for the niches too. Having said that there are always smart keywords to get you into popular and profitable niche markets, if you think outside the box.
How to find a profitable niche market the easy way - Lets look at some evergreen niches
I'm also going to try to get you to think outside the box a little so you will also find profitable niche keywords! All these searches are in quote marks ("-")
Weight Loss... Image is important to all of us, and weight loss solutions are one of the most profitable niches there is. Will you rank for weight loss and find yourself on the first page of google in a week? I doubt it, but I bet you could rank for more specific issues with weight loss within a week no problem at all!
How about ranking for "how to lose a muffin top fast" there are only 5 results in google for that search term or "how do I lose my leg fat" only 2 results for that in google. There are 2 target keywords in the weight loss niche that are an easy way for you to get into the weight loss niche, and to find profitable niche keywords like that I just thought of what parts of the body people want to lose weight from.
Dog Training ... Another one of the most profitable niches that there is, and again ranking for the term dog training is going to be impossible right off the bat within 7 days. Yet with this super profitable niche market there is always a way to get your foot in the door.
So let's think outside the box again and get a bit more niche specific. How about the keyword "training a flatcoat retriever" There is just 1 result in google for that search term, and the search term "How to train a gun dog puppy to fetch" has 0 results!
So, I hope that I have shown you that to find a profitable niche market isn't actually that difficult, it's finding profitable niche keywords that is the real task we all have. I hope I have given you a few ideas about that too.

Is Blogging Dead? Does it Really Have a Future in 2020 and Beyond?

7 Crucial Tactics For Facebook Account Management

Ever wondered why some people made it big doing business online just by using Facebook? While there are others who were successful and continue to be, there are also some who failed and may still be wondering how others did it. The secret may lie on how you manage your Facebook account.
More and more people today become connected through different social media platforms. Using these platforms for online marketing is no longer a secret - it is the thing. A lot of people have invested time, money, effort and enthusiasm hoping theirs would be the next featured success story. There are so many tips and tactics posted online on how to improve Facebook marketing; those can be overwhelming to the point of being confusing. Some may say what works for one may not work for the other, but it pays to learn and re-learn the basics.
Your goal in maintaining your Facebook account is to increase sales. But it is not always easy to get there. It is tough to get noticed and keep the interest of your target audience, especially when there are hundreds of them doing the same thing. It has come to the point that people get annoyed when they see advertisements as they log in to their accounts to catch up with friends. Sad to say, most people would just go past the advertisements and scroll up or down to something more interesting. So how will you do it? You do it by improving your Facebook management.
Here are 7 tactics that can help you manage your Facebook account better.
1. Put interesting and best content for your audience
As always, your content drives a successful social media page or blog. Your audience will keep on following you if you post helpful, fun, and fresh content. Posting the same posts about your store or clogging your followers with Newsfeeds just won't do. The trick is to know who your audience is, what they like or what appeals to them, what their common problems may be and what solves them. Once you zero in on what interests them, you get a loyal audience. They will check your page out for something new, follow you for your future posts and share your page with friends. Of course, you want your page to stand out while giving out the best content. You can add the following to make sure each post you make can get the attention of not only your fans but anyone who happen to make it to your page:
Photos - a picture can say a thousand words and a well-chosen photo that says a lot about your brand can captivate a larger, global followers
3-D ads - if a regular video can draw people's attention, then for sure a 3-D ad is an attention- grabber.
Videos - people are basically curious and a video can certainly draw attention. You can add your own video, or post a link to a video from sites like YouTube for example. Facebook allows you to add a featured video that can appear on your timeline. It also allows you to create a playlist by grouping your video.
Cinemagragh - these are still photos with recurring movements that are fast becoming a thing to be posted on Facebook.
2. Post regularly and know your audience’s availability to come online
Having a problem with low Facebook reach? Simply increase the number of times you post to counter it. Take a time to know and consider the schedules that your target audience is more active online. Some users do not bother with what's on the bottom of their page when they log in to Facebook; they're only interested in what's right on top. However, do be careful not to spam or flood your fans with posts.
On the other hand, if you are getting more negative posts or comments than you can handle, try checking the Posting Ability tab of your Facebook page. Letting your fans have an open access to your page also means allowing negative posts and criticisms. This can be good so you can show them how you handle it, but you can choose to just let them PM you or message you privately. Editing your settings will allow you to choose whether or not to allow everyone to post on your page or just keep it with the page admin.
3. Know what's working on your page
To get people to notice your page, you have to know what they like so you can post just that. However, you cannot know for sure which of your posts actually made a greater impact or are most liked. One way to improve your Facebook marketing strategy is to know what is giving you the results and what's not. This will help you save valuable time and effort. To help you with this, you can check Facebook Insights to determine which posts have the wider reach or are more popular; track your progress. It also helps you keep track of the active users and check if your page is performing well or not.
4. Encourage interaction and conversation
Not only your content should be engaging, but you also should comment or answer questions from your followers. This will make your fans feel that you are not just thinking about "making money" but are also interested in what they think. Imagine that your Facebook account is your store and people who like, comment, and share are your customers. To ignore them is like ignoring the customers who come in your store. To interact with them will help build trust and relationship. Your next step will be to move these fans to your email list. Once this happens, you can send them automated email marketing campaigns, making your relationship with potential customers stronger that ultimately lead to sales.
5. Study your negative feedback
Knowing what your customers did not like about your posts or ads is one of the most effective ways in making sure you can give them what they want in the future. This is true not only in Facebook marketing, but in any marketing campaigns. Studying your negative feedback can help make your page better and can guide you in the posts your going to make in the future. It will help you understand your customers better. Remember that your content should be helpful and interesting. Knowing what they like and what helps them is the key.
6. Engage your call to action button
The purpose of any advertisement posted on Facebook is to get a larger audience or potential customers that could mean sales. Of course, these ads are just ways of driving traffic to your main site. Businesses now have a better way in getting people to their landing or main pages through Facebook's call to action button. This can help you guide your followers on what you need them to do after clicking your advertisement. Currently here are 7 buttons that you can use:
Use App
Book Now
Shop Now
Contact Us
Sign Up
Watch Video
Play Game
There is also a way for you to see how many times your call to action button has been clicked. This button is certainly a welcome feature to aid Facebook management.
7. Check, update, and redesign posts
As the saying goes, the only thing that is constant in this world is change. That goes for Facebook as well. Facebook changes its terms of service and other features often. For a better Facebook management as an online marketer, it is best to frequently check its guidelines and to always be updated. When you know what's new, what's no longer, and any other ‘Do's and Don't’,, then you can make plans on your future posts and ads to manage your Facebook account better.
Another thing you need to keep in mind is that your status updates or the daily posts you make keep your customers captivated. But with so many strategies being developed to get ahead, it is hard to keep your customers captivated for long. Besides, you may be concentrating more on the posts you make everyday and may have forgotten about the rest of your page. Getting a new look can get your loyal customers more enthralled and new customers will check out your page. Remember that your Facebook account is just like your store. Making sure that your inventory looks good on display is very important to attract customers.
As mentioned above, what may work for one may not work for the other. These are helpful, useful tactics that may mean success to your Facebook marketing efforts. It will not bring success overnight and it still needs time and effort. More so, these might remind you of something you may have taken for granted or might give you an idea. It is important to have a guide that can make your Facebook account better. Perhaps, you are now ready for better results in managing your Facebook account.

How to Pivot Your Small Business Strategy During the COVID-19 Crisis

Easy Ways to Create a Coronavirus Crisis Management Plan

As small business owners, we’re prepared for a lot of things, whether it’s a seasonal shift in sales or an unexpected employee absence we have to step in and cover.

But we’ve never seen anything like the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving us uncertain about how to cope in these strange times.

I know that this is a scary and isolating time both personally and professionally. I hope you’re staying safe and healthy, and that this article can help you with planning for business challenges related to the coronavirus.

I’ve personally had to pivot many times as an entrepreneur, and while it can be stressful, it can also be a time of innovation and growth.

As you’re creating your coronavirus crisis management plan for business, here are a few things to focus on:

The Importance of Helping Over Selling

I get that you have a company to run, and I’m not suggesting you start giving things away for free or risk your health to open up shop. What I’m recommending is that you take a step back and think about your community while you’re running your company.

Maybe there is a way that what you offer could help people in this difficult time. One of our clients, The Broken Whisk, has had to stop serving customers in their Agassiz, B.C. restaurant. They instead created a select menu of gourmet meals for only $5 each, which can be ordered in advance and picked up.

And not only is their Facebook post getting liked and shared because it’s a delicious offer and a way of giving back to the community, it’s also started a chain of charitable giving. More and more people are donating money to buy meals for those in need.

Is there a way you can adapt your current marketing model to better serve your customers and community?

Online Events & Offerings

Obviously, hosting a conference or awards dinner is off-limits at the moment. A huge part of your planning for business challenges related to COVID-19 is going to include an online marketing strategy.

Think of some ways you can still connect people from the comfort of home, including webinars, Facebook Live videos and virtual conferences using tools like Zoom. And don’t just focus on coronavirus-related content. Keep producing video that will benefit your small business marketing strategy long after the COVID-19 crisis is over.

Here’s a good example of a pivot to online marketing. A Stroke of Genius is a client of ours located in North Vancouver, BC. As an interior decorator, Barbara Aylesworth has built her company working directly with clients and manufacturers. However, with the COVID-19 crisis, she’s had to pivot her marketing strategy to include virtual consultations and project management.

Barb is also inviting people to send in their pics of decorating and design challenges via Instagram, offering to then send her ideas for possible solutions.

This is a fun and inspiring way to engage her community when people need it the most!

Read Should You Stop Marketing During COVID-19?
Unless you sell toilet paper or hand sanitizer, you may be concerned about the impact of the coronavirus on your small business; your revenue, employees, and empty marketing funnel. So does that mean you should hunker down and stop your marketing efforts for the time being? No!

I’m a firm believer in focusing on what we can do and change while finding the opportunities amidst adversity. In this article, I’m sharing some ways you can address the challenge of marketing during a crisis and keep your company going.

Business Planning for Future Growth

Of course you have to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic with the right messaging, but don’t get tunnel vision when it comes to your marketing strategy and ad dollars.

While consumers are spending more time online, they’re not keen to make decisions about the future right now. If you have a service that requires your customers to plan far ahead or travel, your conversion rate will suffer during the outbreak. So don’t expect that the same content and ads that brought in traffic before the pandemic will keep coming.

But all is not lost! This can be an opportunity to engage with your customers on social media and increase your brand awareness with content and even paid advertising. With paid ads, you may even find that you have less online competition during an economic downturn, meaning you’ll pay less for more eyeballs and clicks.

From promoting spring-themed gift cards on your website to creating useful articles on financial planning during COVID-19, give your customers a reason to stick with you—even if the pandemic is bringing you more business.

For example, Your Yoga Flow is an online app that provides virtual yoga classes. If anything, they’re seeing an increase in sales as people try to stay active and healthy while cooped up at home. By not just selling their services, but providing a free meditation during "these trying times," they boost brand awareness, give something back and stay top-of-mind.

If you’re willing to look forward while creating your coronavirus crisis management plan, you’ll be better positioned to stay relevant and remarket to your audience at a later time.

Empowering Your Employees

According to recent statistics, over 500,000 Canadians, or approximately 2.5% of the workforce, have filed E.I. applications already. If you haven’t had to make hard decisions about laying off staff, how can you keep your team busy and optimistic about the future?

Here are a few ideas:

● Offer training opportunities to help your team and your company in the long-term—whether that’s getting a new certification or reading relevant industry books.
● Consider making vacation policies or work hours more flexible to accommodate employees whose kids may be out of school, for example.
● Share jobs across departments to increase responsiveness to your customers.
● Involve your team in "back burner" projects or things you’ve put off because you were too busy before.

If your team is working remotely, make sure to check in with them often. A virtual daily coffee or 15-minute meeting to see how everyone is doing can be vital to your team’s mental health and well-being.

No matter what type of company you have, your customers are looking for help and assurance right now. As you’re developing your coronavirus crisis management plan, keep in mind that everyone is being bombarded with messaging noise.

That means emails from every company they ever followed on social media, bought a product from or signed up to get an eNewsletter from! As you pivot your small business marketing strategy to survive the COVID-19 crisis, make sure all of your communications provide succinct, meaningful and relevant information.

The more value you can offer your customers right now, the more successful you’ll be as we shift to a new way of marketing and emerge from a global crisis that made our world a lot smaller.
